Accessibility Resource Center
The University of Tennessee provides reasonable accommodations (academic adjustments and auxiliary aids) to ensure equal access to educational content and university programs for students with disabilities. Students who are approved for accommodations are responsible for requesting accommodation letters be sent to faculty each semester. The Accessibility Resource Center is located at 206-209 Clement Hall. Contact information: 731.881.7605 or ARC@utm.edu.
Our Mission and Goals
The mission of the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) is to create an accessible, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that allows for all students to have equal access to a higher education. Through a collaborative effort with faculty, staff, and students, the ARC facilitates academic accommodations, disability advocacy, and serves as an educational resource for the campus community.
The ARC team is committed to serving the UTM community through ensuring equal access, removing disability-related obstacles, supporting civil rights, and increasing education and awareness on behalf of students with disabilities.
Goals
- To provide resources to the University community so that events and opportunities can be made accessible to all students, staff and visitors.
- To ensure equal access for students with disabilities in compliance with state and federal law. ARC serves undergraduate, graduate and professional students; UTM main campus and Satellite Campus students, on-ground and on-line students; and students in all credit-granting courses and programs of study.
- To facilitate individualized accommodations for undergraduate, graduate and professional school students with disabilities, and work to remove barriers which may prevent full participation in the University community for any student with a documented disability as defined by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.
- To serve as a liaison between students, Vocational Rehabilitation and UT Martin faculty/staff to create a welcoming and accessible environment at our university.
- To support a campus that is rich in diversity, the Accessibility Resource Center will work to encourage academic excellence, promote student experience and success, actively promote inclusion and advocacy for the dignity of those with disabilities, and will recognize and promote the value of individual differences.
